Romance was Born S/S 2012

Australian Fashion Week kicked off today with a POW with the comic themed spring/summer collection from Romance was Born. The level of excess and fictional exaggeration is not surprising since the label (by the design duo Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales) is basically famous for its' over the top embellished style.
This season definitely did not disappoint. It turns out that Romance was Born scored an exclusive sponsorship deal with Marvel comics. So, for all you comic book lovers out there, this is heaven and combining this superhero theme with fashion is just pure genius. Perfect timing ... since the highly anticipated 'The Avengers' film just came out in cinemas.

I feel that these garments belong in a Comic-Con exhibition although I do love the bright colours and clashing prints and textures. The amazing details such as the metal embellishments, sequins combined with the geometric and symmetrical prints injects an illusionary element and evokes a feeling of BAM-in-your-face power.  Looks that stood out were the black and white optical illusion dress paired with yellow heels and the emerald bodysuit speckled with sequins, stones and star-shaped metal plates.
