Beat the Chill

My lack of outfit posts can (hopefully) be excused by the wet weather. 

Yes ... sounds like the lame and unbelievable 'my dog ate my homework' excuse we used back in primary school. 

But seriously it has been bucketing down non stop for the past week ... just ask anyone living in Sydney. 

In times like this, I shut myself in a constant degree of summer. How is that possible you ask but lets just say that my energy bill for the end of winter will be quite shameful (don't stress, my heater is energy 'efficient' but who knows whether we can believe that). Between all my brain lapses while I study to prepare for my trials, I was quite amused at one simple fact. 

Why is it that we never enjoy the appropriate weather for each season but instead our mind drifts towards that opposite 'wish I was there' temperature? In other words, why the heck do we sit here thinking about sunshine in the middle of winter. But in reverse, we yearn for rain and a cool breeze amongst the worst times of humidity and excessive sweating. 

For me, it's always the former not the latter so in the hopes of retraining my brain to 'like' the chill ... here is an assortment of winter styling. 

P.S Sydney does not snow so please don't rant to me about how beautiful that is.

P&P loves MMM

Aussie label, Minty Meets Munt has just been welcomed into the stylish strip of Paddington boutiques. Their store launch featured racks of the most whimsical, quirky and glamorous pieces. 

If you've been following my blog, you'll know I have the biggest soft spot for sugary pastels and white lace. For the whole night, like a moth to a flame, I was drawn to the rack of heavenly goodness in the form of mint, lemon and ivory. 

It was reminiscent of Louis Vuitton S/S 2012 ... the show where models were poised on a giant merry-go-round clothed in utmost femininity and innocence (HERE). The moment I saw that rack, I could hear the carousel doing its last round before Kate Moss steps onto the runway. I need to ask designer Ingrid Epitro whether that was her inspiration (and if I can borrow a sample for my next outfit shoot). 

Floral for spring? Maybe not so groundbreaking but florals for winter are a must have. Weather is getting cold ... we're all finding it hard to roll out of bed so why not throw on a bright yellow knit with a sequin flower smack-bang in the middle? Yes I hear sunshine calling but I'll probably wear that jumper (seen in picture 3) around the house because it looks so goddamn comfortable.

Boticca Wishlist

Recently discovering an online accessories site called Boticca, all I've been doing in my spare time is perusing through their categories. Ranging from statement necklaces, to dainty bangles to evening clutches, I seriously would love to own every single piece (of course, I would be broke until the end of my life if that happens).

Boticca is a boutique/marketplace, stocking pieces from emerging designers around the world. Their tagline 'I'd rather wear a unique story' sums up Boticca's purpose perfectly. To founders Kiyan Foroughi and Avid Larizadeh, jewellery is not so much ... jewellery anymore, it's a journey with a story. Therefore to the customer, since the design talent are not seen in mainstream stores, buying something from Boticca means you're owning a beautiful and unique hand made piece.

From today to July 28th, they are having a summer sale so I would recommend you checking out the site and maybe staying a while.

OUTFIT POST: Shades of Grey

Not fifty shades of grey, just two shades ... only two.

It has never occurred to me to combine tones of the most boring colour together. I always associated grey with moody weather, temporary depression or a sign you're getting old (although some people look smashing with grey hair). But on a non-gloomy afternoon, I thought it was a great idea to breathe new life into the poor, rejected being AKA 'grey'.

Many of you will be familiar with grey's distant cousin. The oh-so-popular queen bee who has ruled so many spring and summer wardrobes since the 1970's flower power ... the 'floral'. Now entering into this outfit in the form of a bright psychedelic magenta print, it was a match made in (for the lack of a better word) heaven. Seriously though, this bomber by Paint It Red is the rad-est mix of girly and sporty since the term 'sports luxe' was overused by everyone and their grandma.

River Island Launch

There's something for the androgynous, gypsea, outrageous or elegant side to all of us. Appealing to so many different facets of personal style is what I love most about River Island. The UK store has just launched an Australian website (HERE) with collections that are in sync with our seasons (read: no more online shopping that sells bikini when it's freezing cold here in July).

I'm very glad to be a part of their Australian Launch taken place at a gorgeous spot in Rose Bay where the views are nearly as good as the clothes on show. The set up was superb where each trend was categorised into different racks. You've got the vintage vibes at the back, the flower bombs at the front and  the street style grunge somewhere in between. My favourite rack? It was all white and dripping with different textures ... embellishments, sporty mesh and lace.

However there's something to get even more exited about. River Island has collaborated with RiRi for an exclusive collection ... Rihanna for River Island (check it out HERE). I was told she was very hands on with this collection where she made most of the creative decisions. Don't know about you, but I would love to have something that was created from her talented brain.
