DIY, floral crown, flowers, label, Etsy, floral garland, DIY floral crown, P&P crownsAs you would all know, I own an Etsy shop selling custom made floral crowns (see HERE). I've been getting a few emails regarding the making process for a while but I never provided an answer.

Mainly because, there really isn't anything spectacular about the creation of these accessories. The photos above should give you a sufficient look into the 'behind the scenes' process of my 'label' (notice how they're in inverted commas, so please don't expect anything Chanel fashion studio worthy).

Let me spell it out for you simply:
1. I don't own a studio. I make my crowns on the same table in which I do my homework and I store my spare flowers in an unwanted suitcase.
2. It's not a tedious task. An episode of Skins or Revenge should see you to the completion of one crown. For best results, I put on my hour long playlist of Lana Del Rey (on repeat of course). She really does set the mood.
3. Once they're done, I go to Australia Post who sends it out in one of those (iconic) brown parcels.

I do just want to thank all of my followers who has supported this hobby turned business either through the amazing comments or the purchase of a crown. I love that fuzzy feeling after knowing that a parcel is heading towards an eager customer. It also thrills me to be messaged that I've made somebody day brighter and happier. This store has personally opened up a lot of doors; it's now stocked in a Brisbane boutique called Rocket Science (shop HERE) and my Etsy picture has been chosen as the (for the lack of a better word) face for an event in L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2013 (see HERE).

Thank you all again!

Finally!! I can finally reveal the excuse for my sporadic and quite shallow posts of late. Over the past week, I've been working on some floral crowns for a Brisbane store called Rocket Science (Check out their store HERE and Facebook HERE). As of right now, they're still an online boutique selling quirky independent brands and they contacted me through Etsy to stock some of my crowns for their upcoming physical shop.
If you are located in Brisbane, do go check out the opening on December 1st at 181 Brisbane Street, Ipswich.

If you're interested in my floral crowns and want to be updated for new listings, follow me on Instagram (primpedandprimed), Twitter or go to my Etsy store.

OUTFIT POST SPRING SERIES: Game of Thorns

Playsuit: Motel Rocks (shop here) ... Floral Crown: DIY (shop here) ... Hand Armour: Sportsgirl
Necklace: Sportsgirl ... Stockings: Sportsgirl ... Shoes: Siren
'Designed in the UK, Motel is known for body-conscious pieces that span the wardrobe needs of every woman from the celebrity to the girl next door' - Motel
I recently discovered Motel and their youthful but also vintage aesthetic immediately caught my eye where many of their pieces are climbing up my wishlist faster than creepy vines. Caving into my temptations, I purchased the Janet Playsuit which I have styled today. I wanted to create something that was a combination of old and new; marrying the modern 'goal uniform' print with a hand armour and necklace reminiscent of an outdated and archaic era. Even the red roses on my floral crown seems to be in its menopausal stage; blossomed though its prime ... slightly wilting but not quite dead. Something about all these elements mixed together projects a sense of half-hearted life, unsure of which period it belongs to.
Back to the point of creepy vines, is it just me or are there some climbing up my legs?

Note to self: As a blogger, I signed up to Motel's Street Team where you can earn store credit. This is however NOT a sponsored post as I bought the playsuit before I applied for this affiliate. If you are also a blogger, click here to enter Motel's Street Team.

SPRING SERIES: DIY Floral Crown

As a part of my Spring Series, I promised you all that I would post a DIY on how to make a floral crown. If you're like me and sick of the same generic flowery headbands in all the chain stores, then this DIY is for you (oh god... that sounded like an infomercial). I was initially inspired by Lana Del Rey's style ... that sort of vintage, ethereal look complete with the gorgeous floral garlands.

What you'll need

DIY floral crown, floral crown, orchid, flourist tape, floral wire,

1. A selection of artificial flowers (i used white orchids - Lincraft)
2. Florist tape (Lincraft)
3. Floral wire (Lincraft)
4. Pliers
5. Measuring tape
6. Normal scissors

1. Measure your head circumference with the measuring tape. Create a halo-like circle by twisting the floral wires together (I used 3 wires).

2. Take your first individual/bunch of flowers. Using the florist tape, wrap the flower around the wire halo. Just a tip: florist tape is like magic, it's not sticky like scotch tape but it just automatically adheres. Feels a bit like moulding clay when you press on it too. Anyways...

3. Repeat step 2, working your way around the crown until you've got your desired result. You can choose to complete the crown or leave the back naked.

DIY: Studded Collar Shirt

DIY, stud, studded, collar, white, shirt, gold, cone

Finally, my order from Studs and Spikes arrived in the mail where it took about 20 working days to ship to Australia. I'm so esctatic because they look exactly how I imagined. I ordered a bag of 50 Standard English77 Golden Studs and a bag of 100 Standard 1/2 Pyramid Silver Studs.
To shop for studs go to http://studsandspikes.com/

DIY, stud, studded, collar, white, shirt, gold, coneFor this DIY post, I'll be using the Standard English77 Golden studs from Studs and Spikes, or in other words gold cone studs. Pictured right is a close up of the studs I will be using. As you can see, the front consists of a smooth gold tone metal in the shape of a cone and the back features 2 sharp prongs which will puncture the fabric. A pack of 50 should be enough to stud an entire collar.
Of course, this DIY is only a reference and you can use whatever size, style or colour studs you like.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
* Collared shirt
* Pack of 50 studs
* Butter knife (optional)
* Scissors (optional)

DIY, stud, studded, collar, white, shirt, gold, cone

LETS GETS STARTED:
1. Decide where you want to place the first stud. If you want to mark it out with pencil you can.
2. Get your first stud and gently push the prongs into the fabric. It should look like PICTURE 1. If you're having difficulty puncturing the fabric, you might want to use scissors to create some holes first.
3. Flip the fabric upside down and fold the prongs over one by one. This is where the optional butter knife comes in. If you've got delicate fingers, use the butter knife to gently press it down.
4. Get creative, repeat steps 2-3 until you've reached your desired result. You can choose to stud the tips of the collar, the entire collar or your entire shirt! For inspiration go to my studded collar inspiration post.
